Best Practices to be Confident or Good at Strategic Communication !!!

To be confident, the best result is to be good in strategic communication. How we do that???

Today early morning I was listening one of the famous podcast “Think Fast Talk Smart” sponsored by Stanford University. Here are my notes on this topic. We usually do our homework before going to any meeting or appointments but if you look back in time our most of the successful conversations are spontaneous. This means on spur-the-moment we have to be more attentive and good at spontaneous speaking.

There is scientific logic that the moment we get the pressure that we are the center of the eye which initiates the pressure build-up on our brain & we end up getting nervous. The beauty of the human brain is that in the same scenario if you get the feeling that you are doing great or start receiving appreciation or acceptance immediately you turn up to be confident and good at spontaneous conversations.

So, the question is how we trick our mind to be confident instead of nervous about our important Business meetings;

  • Ability to let go of the pressure of being Outstanding
  • Shoot for average & fail cheerfully (Stanford University Reference) Reference to this phrase is this that if you are off the pressure in your mind psychologically you will perform great.
  • Prepared & Present Orientation This refers to be prepared and also your presentation orientation to the point and focused.
  • Listening Skills with proper evaluation on the spot Listening ability is one of the keys to having a successful strategic conversation, along with this the important factor is to be a deeper connection with the conversation so your conversation is to the point.
  • Appreciate Others As we feel more confident when we receive appreciation in a group same way we should keep on appreciating others to lit with the discussion and engaging everyone.
  • Visualize yourself for the event or discussion in your practice session For any big event of discussion, we usually prepare with the facts and numbers. Make sure during your practice session you are visualizing the event and preparing your thoughts in the same direction.
  • Being Conversational instead of performance The best technique to have a successful conversation is that you being conversational instead of giving the presentation or performance. The moment you involve everyone in the discussion it’s not about you anymore.
  • It’s not about you, it’s about them As said in the previous point “It’s Not About You It’s About Them” The moment you will include everyone you are off the hook as a center of the eye and leading the discussion.
  • Accept Suggestions & Advice Always feel comfortable accepting the suggestion or advice in the group. Never argue with personal choice or without facts or figures.
  • Always give reference & examples During the conversation always try to relate with some references or examples to make your point clear and correlating with the live situation. It sounds more convincing.
  • Trust yourself & be ready to live the moment.

Building confidence is a time taking process and a lot of practice and screw-ups which we do at the initial stage that gives the lesson and make us more mature and confident. Whereas strategic communication needs confidence, deeper knowledge of the subject, and good negotiation skills to turn around the minds. Keep learning no matter how much experience you have, Learning is Inevitable !!!
